A private ski trip should save time where it matters
A ski holiday does not really begin at the airport. It begins when you leave home, the office or school and start moving towards the mountains. Flying privately from the UK gives you much more control over that first and last day: departure can be planned around your party rather than an airline timetable, and the Alpine airport can be selected around the resort where you are actually staying.
That matters most on a short ski break. Leave after lunch and you can be in the Alps that evening. On Sunday, the return flight can often be planned around your last day on the mountain instead of an early check-out and a fixed scheduled service. We look at the flight, ski baggage and final transfer as one journey.

There is no single departure airport that suits every private ski journey. For travellers in and around London, Farnborough, Biggin Hill and Luton can each be excellent choices depending on where you start, the road journey and the aircraft available. The same principle applies across the UK: we do not ask you to travel to a fixed airport simply because it is familiar. We compare the departure point as part of the complete itinerary.
We apply the same logic in the Alps. For St. Moritz, Samedan can put you directly into the Engadin. Sion can be an excellent gateway for Verbier and Crans-Montana. For Courchevel and Méribel, Chambéry is one of the key private-aviation gateways to the French Alps. Innsbruck brings much of Tyrol within easy reach.

A natural gateway for many Tyrol resorts. Depending on the chalet, Salzburg can also be a sensible Austrian alternative.
For Courchevel, the altiport is highly specialised and is not the normal solution for a private jet charter. We compare Chambéry, Geneva and other realistic gateways, then plan the final transfer around the day’s actual conditions.
Skis & baggage
Your ski equipment belongs in the aircraft choice from the start
Ski holidays create a very different baggage profile from a weekend in Paris or Milan. Ski and snowboard bags are long, boots and helmets take up space, and winter clothing quickly fills larger cases. A jet may have enough seats for your party while still being the wrong aircraft for the equipment travelling with you.
That is why we ask about the actual baggage before comparing aircraft. If you hire skis in the resort, a more compact aircraft may work perfectly. If a family travels with its own skis, boards and several large cases, baggage access and usable hold volume can matter more than an extra passenger seat on the brochure.

Which aircraft?
Choose the aircraft around the route, party and baggage
Several aircraft categories can work well between the UK and the Alps. A turboprop can be attractive when regional-airport access and practical baggage space matter most. Light and super light jets often combine speed, comfort and European range very efficiently. A midsize jet becomes more relevant for a larger party or a generous amount of winter luggage.
A Phenom 300 can be an excellent European ski aircraft, but we never select a model name first and force the journey around it. The aircraft must suit the passenger count, baggage, departure airport, Alpine airport and live availability for that particular trip.

Winter planning
Christmas, half-term and peak ski weekends are worth planning early
Christmas and New Year, February half-term and the most popular Friday-to-Sunday ski weekends concentrate demand into a relatively small number of days. The pressure is not limited to aircraft availability. Parking, handling, local transfers and suitable slots at some Alpine airports can all become more constrained.
Winter weather is another reason to plan the complete route rather than simply book the closest airport. Snow, wind or conditions in the mountains may make an alternative gateway the better choice on the day. We prefer to know the sensible alternative in advance instead of promising one theoretically perfect route with no margin.
