Zurich and Geneva: the two robust international gateways
Zurich is the principal choice for financial and corporate meetings, as well as art, shopping and a weekend by the lake. The centre is manageable and a same-day return from the Netherlands is practical. For Zug, Lucerne or a resort deeper in the Alps, we compare chauffeur time with a regional airport rather than making the familiar gateway the automatic default.
Geneva suits international organisations, private banking and watchmaking and also opens the complete Lake Geneva region. Lausanne, the Lavaux vineyards and Montreux Riviera can be combined in one journey. For a chalet in the French Alps, we plan the border, traffic and resort transfer as one route, particularly on busy winter changeover days.
The same aircraft may wait for a short business visit when parking and crew duty permit. For several days, we compare remaining on the ground with drop-and-go. Zurich and Geneva are generally robust, while major events, exhibitions, diplomatic meetings and winter peaks can affect aircraft and parking choice.
Bern and Basel: regional logic over familiarity
Bern is directly convenient for the federal capital and can make a corporate journey remarkably compact. The city has a historic centre and relaxed pace, while Interlaken and parts of the Bernese Oberland are accessible. For Grindelwald or Gstaad, we compare Bern with Geneva, Zurich and Sion by actual arrival time at the hotel or chalet.
EuroAirport Basel–Mulhouse–Freiburg (BSL / LFSB) is physically in France and serves the border region. This creates a distinctive customs and landside arrangement: the selected exit and chauffeur plan must align with Switzerland, France or Germany. Basel is strong for pharmaceuticals, congresses and northwestern Switzerland, but is planned differently from a fully Swiss regional airport.
The airborne sector is short, making aircraft position more important than cruise speed. A turboprop or Light Jet near Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Brussels or Düsseldorf may be more attractive than a faster aircraft requiring a long empty positioning sector.
Sion, Lugano and Samedan: closer to the mountains, more conditions
Sion can substantially shorten the drive to Verbier, Crans-Montana and other Valais destinations. Zermatt always requires a final connection by road and rail or helicopter because the village is car-free. The mountain setting requires suitable aircraft and weather; when these do not align, we choose a robust gateway in advance rather than improvising the journey at the last moment.
Lugano gives direct access to Ticino, with an almost Mediterranean atmosphere, palms, the lake and Italian-Swiss dining. Its airport can be used only with suitable aircraft and conditions. For a hotel on Lake Lugano or in Ascona, we therefore compare Zurich, Milan and Bergamo by total journey time as well.
Samedan is exceptionally close to St. Moritz, Celerina and Pontresina. It is attractive for skiing, White Turf, events, dining and summer stays in the Engadin. The high mountain setting simply means that not every aircraft and weather window works. We shortlist executable options and include Zurich or another gateway as a planned alternative.
Winter sports, baggage and a realistic return plan
Winter-sports journeys involve skis, snowboards, boots and large suitcases. Hold volume may therefore become limiting before seat count. We establish dimensions and quantities in advance and verify that long items fit through the loading door. A roomier turboprop or Light Jet can be more practical for a family than a compact jet with the same passenger capacity.
Weather may affect the outbound and return flights differently at a mountain airport. We therefore agree a suitable alternative in advance. When Samedan, Sion or Lugano is not responsible on the travel day, Zurich, Geneva, Bern, Basel or an airport on the Italian side may protect the journey. Chauffeur planning is prepared accordingly.
The charter price to Switzerland consists of aircraft position, flight hours, handling, airport charges, winter operations where applicable, parking, crew and return structure. Share the exact hotel, chalet, office or resort, together with passengers and baggage. JetServiceNL compares current AOC-operated options and explains how much time a regional airport genuinely saves against its additional operational conditions.
