London Stansted Airport (STN / EGSS) is a practical private-jet gateway for Essex, Cambridge and many business addresses on the eastern side of London. The airport has a single runway of more than 3,000 metres and operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Much of the business-aviation activity is separated from the main passenger terminal. Stansted lists five specialist FBOs on site, including Harrods Aviation, Inflite and Universal Aviation, with private lounges, aircraft handling and direct airside access.
That 24-hour status does not mean the operation is unrestricted. Stansted is a fully coordinated airport, so every business- and general-aviation movement requires a slot allocated in advance. Government night-flight controls also limit movements and noise quota between 23:30 and 06:00 local time. Choosing the right aircraft for Stansted
The sector from Amsterdam is short, with an indicative flight time of around 55 minutes. For two to six passengers, a Light Jet is often the first category to consider. For larger groups or an onward intercontinental itinerary, Stansted can also accommodate midsize, heavy and long-range jets without the runway becoming the limiting factor.

Stansted is not automatically the best London airport for every address. The airport itself quotes around 45 minutes by road to the City of London and Canary Wharf via the M11, although London traffic can materially change that journey time. For the City, Canary Wharf, Essex and north-eastern London, Stansted can therefore be particularly efficient. For the West End, Kensington or destinations west of London, Farnborough, Luton or another airport may offer a stronger door-to-door result.
Cambridge is an important part of Stansted’s proposition. The airport describes itself as the closest major London airport to Cambridge, making it relevant for technology, life sciences, university visits and investment meetings in the Cambridge region. Newmarket, Hertfordshire and parts of East Anglia are also practical from Stansted. Slots, night operations and charter pricing
Stansted’s 24-hour capability is valuable, but the slot coordination means timing still needs to be managed carefully. Every movement requires an allocated slot and during busy periods the exact requested time may not be available. Around major London events, international sports fixtures and peak weekends, requesting early therefore helps preserve choice of slot, FBO, parking and aircraft. It is about operational choice rather than inventing a fixed booking deadline.
Night movements add another layer. A departure at 01:00 is operationally different from one at 21:00 even though the airport is technically open at both times. We confirm feasibility before presenting a late movement as firm.
