Salerno Costa d’Amalfi: a direct private-aviation gateway
Salerno Costa d’Amalfi and Cilento Airport (QSR / LIRI) returned to scheduled use in July 2024 and is developing quickly. Its runway is approximately 2,000 metres long. This suits many Light Jets and Super Light Jets, although aircraft within one category do not all have identical performance. Weight, temperature, wind, runway condition and required margins are assessed by the operating carrier for every mission.
A new General Aviation terminal opened at the airport in July 2026, specifically for private and business aviation. This is a meaningful improvement: Salerno is no longer simply a regional airport with limited private-aviation context, but now has a dedicated facility for this passenger flow. The handler and operator remain responsible for current acceptance, parking, fuel and passenger services.
Published terminal hours are 05:00 to 22:30 local time, so QSR is not open 24 hours. An arrival before closing may work well for a late dinner, but for a very late landing or early off-block time we compare Naples and an adjusted schedule. We always verify operational airport hours for the actual movement; terminal information alone is not landing permission.
Light Jet or Super Light Jet: selecting on performance and baggage
A Light Jet is often an efficient starting point for Amsterdam–Salerno. A Super Light Jet provides more cabin and baggage space and may suit a holiday party or business group better. The runway is shorter than at Naples, so we always ask the operator to assess the specific aircraft and expected payload.
Amalfi Coast journeys often involve large suitcases, children’s baggage or luggage for a longer stay. An aircraft with enough seats can still have insufficient hold volume. During hot summer weather, weight may also affect the performance calculation. We therefore establish passenger and baggage details before presenting an aircraft as the final solution.
Aircraft position remains important for price. A suitable jet already near Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Brussels or Düsseldorf may be more attractive than a smaller aircraft positioning empty from southern Europe. Waiting can be efficient for a short visit; for several nights we compare parking with drop-and-go and a separate return option.
Salerno, Amalfi, Ravello, Positano or Cilento
QSR is not in central Salerno, but southeast of the city. Its position is often strong for Salerno, Vietri sul Mare, Paestum and destinations towards Cilento. Amalfi and Ravello can also be logical, although the final kilometres on coastal and mountain roads require realistic planning.
For Positano and the western part of the coast, Naples can sometimes remain competitive despite appearing further away, depending on traffic, timing and aircraft availability. Amalfi Coast transfers are sensitive to summer congestion, roadworks and events. We therefore compare expected arrival at the hotel, villa, marina or wedding venue rather than only kilometres.
An experienced regional chauffeur is more valuable than a theoretically tight schedule. On narrow access roads or with substantial luggage, two smaller vehicles may be more practical than one large vehicle. For a yacht transfer, we align the chauffeur, marina and captain to the same ETA. A boat transfer can be attractive, but remains subject to sea conditions and local availability.
When Naples is the better alternative
Naples International Airport (NAP / LIRN) has a longer-established General Aviation operation and broader aircraft positioning choice. Naples may therefore be stronger when QSR cannot support the required time, the specific aircraft is unsuitable, parking is unavailable or the journey ends on the western side of the Amalfi Coast.
Salerno has a clear advantage for the city, Paestum, Cilento and often the eastern coastal area. Its new GA terminal strengthens that case. We assess both airports for the actual travel date and explain in the quotation why one option provides the better door-to-door journey.
The charter price consists of aircraft position, flight hours, handling, airport charges, parking, crew and return structure. If the destination area is already known, you may share it later or include it voluntarily for more tailored airport and transfer advice. JetServiceNL compares current AOC-operated aircraft via Salerno and, where relevant, Naples, creating a proposal that works both operationally and in total journey time.
