Gstaad Airport at Saanen: almost directly from aircraft to Gstaad
Gstaad Airport (LSGK) is located at Saanen, only a few kilometres from Gstaad. For a stay in Gstaad, Saanen, Rougemont or a private chalet elsewhere in the Saanenland, this can be a major door-to-door advantage: the ground transfer becomes a short final stage rather than a second journey after landing. Gstaad Palace, for example, places the local airport only 5 kilometres from the hotel.
The airport is available 365 days a year within its published operating periods. In summer, normal operations run from 08:00 to 20:00 local time. In winter, aeroplanes can operate from 08:00 until the end of evening civil twilight, while helicopters can continue until 20:00. This matters for a winter return: a dinner that runs late or a delayed road transfer can move the departure beyond Saanen’s usable window.
Every flight requires PPR for both arrival and departure. The airport’s current PPR portal states a minimum of three hours’ notice for a non-domestic arrival and two hours for a non-domestic departure, with PPR requests processed during office hours. For a flight from the Netherlands we therefore treat PPR, customs information and passenger details as an integral part of the mission planning.
A short Alpine runway makes aircraft choice part of the journey
Runway 08/26 is 1,400 metres long and the airport elevation is 3,307 ft. That combination makes Saanen fundamentally different from a large international airport. Temperature, wind, snow or a wet runway, actual take-off weight and required climb performance can all change the operational margin.
A Pilatus PC-12 or comparable turboprop can offer an excellent balance of range, baggage capacity and short-field capability. Selected business jets can also use Saanen when aircraft performance, operator approval and conditions support the operation. We therefore assess the actual aircraft rather than simply booking a generic “Light Jet”. With more passengers, substantial ski equipment or demanding winter conditions, a different aircraft or airport can be the smarter decision.
Bern Airport is the natural robust alternative for many business jets. It offers full-service executive handling, no slots and quotes a road time of about 80 minutes to Gstaad. Geneva provides still more capacity and a wider choice of larger jets, but the road transfer is normally around two hours.
Gstaad, private chalets and winter weekends: the ground transfer stays short
Travellers flying to Saanen are rarely travelling for the airport itself. Gstaad is the clear draw: skiing in winter, hiking and events in summer, private chalets, international school visits and a hotel market built around privacy and high-touch service. Because the airport sits so close to Saanen and Gstaad, the chauffeur and baggage arrangements can be timed closely around the aircraft.

Around ski weekends, holidays and major events, booking early creates more choice in suitable aircraft, parking and chauffeurs. The mission still needs enough flexibility to react to weather and operational changes.
How we plan a private flight to Saanen without forcing the operation
For a Saanen request we first look at passenger count, baggage or ski equipment, destination area and schedule. We then compare suitable aircraft and confirm performance, PPR, operating hours and parking with the operator and airport.
In good conditions with the right aircraft, Saanen is difficult to beat for convenience. You step off close to Gstaad and avoid a long winter road transfer from Geneva. If the operational margin becomes too small on the day, using Bern or Geneva is the professional decision rather than pushing a Saanen operation to its limits.
The private aircraft should save time and create comfort. If the destination area is already known, you may share it later or include it voluntarily for more tailored airport and transfer advice.
