Flying private to Palma de Mallorca
Mallorca is much more varied than a single resort destination. Palma combines a historic city, marina and restaurants; Deià and Sóller sit among the mountains in the west; Port d’Andratx attracts yachts and villa stays, while the interior is dotted with rural estates and finca hotels. For almost all of these journeys, Palma de Mallorca Airport is the main private-aviation gateway.
General Aviation Terminal and summer planning
Palma Airport has a separate General Aviation Terminal for private flights. The airport operates around the clock, but that does not mean every preferred summer arrival time is automatically available. During the peak period from June through September, aircraft parking can be scarce and airport slots are required for arrivals and departures.
On particularly busy days, an aircraft may drop passengers off and then reposition elsewhere before returning for collection. This is not always necessary, but it explains why a Mallorca quote can be structured differently from the same route in February. We therefore check parking and slot possibilities before treating an overnight stay as a given.
Palma itself: a destination rather than a transfer point
Palma is easily strong enough to anchor a trip on its own. The old town, cathedral, La Lonja and Passeig des Born sit close together. Santa Catalina is livelier and food-focused, while Portixol has a more relaxed waterfront character. For a long weekend, a hotel in or close to the centre can be more practical than a resort far outside the city.
Travellers coming to Mallorca for privacy often continue beyond Palma. Deià and the Tramuntana coast feel completely different from the capital. Port de Sóller combines harbour and mountains, Port d’Andratx is popular with yacht owners, and the interior can feel almost rural. Your ground transfer after landing is therefore a real part of the flight recommendation.
Hotels and restaurants worth knowing
Mallorca has an impressive collection of high-end hotels spread across the island. A few addresses illustrate very different ways to stay:
- Cap Rocat – a former fortress on the Bay of Palma, private and distinctive without requiring a transfer to the far side of the island.
- La Residencia, A Belmond Hotel – in Deià, surrounded by the Tramuntana landscape and a classic choice for a more secluded Mallorcan stay.
- DINS Santi Taura – in Palma, with a contemporary interpretation of Mallorcan produce and culinary traditions.
- Zaranda – creative fine dining in Palma for an evening where dinner is intended to be the main event.
For lunch by the sea, the island also has many seasonal restaurants. We prefer to check current opening periods and location rather than publish the same beach-club list every year.
When is Mallorca busiest?
The main private-aviation peak runs roughly from June through September. Weekends, villa changeover days, yachting events and holiday weeks can make both the airport and roads busy at the same time. Hotels and chauffeur services also fill earlier during this period.
Golf travellers often prefer spring and autumn. The island remains lively, while airport and road traffic are generally easier. Mallorca therefore works almost year-round; the type of trip simply changes with the season.
Which aircraft suits Palma?
A light or super light jet is well suited to Amsterdam – Palma. For two to four passengers, a light jet can be highly efficient. For a family, golf equipment or a longer stay, a super light jet is often more comfortable because luggage space matters just as much as seat count.
Aircraft position is particularly important in summer. A jet already in Mallorca or Spain may look attractive, but overnight parking can introduce extra cost or repositioning. We therefore compare the complete mission rather than focusing on an hourly rate.
One island, very different journey times
Mallorca looks compact on a map, but Tramuntana roads and summer traffic make journey times less predictable. A villa near Deià or Port de Sóller calls for a different arrival strategy from a hotel in Palma or a house near Port d’Andratx. Families often prefer to arrive in daylight, while travellers heading directly to dinner or a yacht may favour a later slot.
This may sound like a ground-transport detail, but it can influence the aircraft as well. An early arrival can make a different aircraft position available from a late-evening departure. We therefore treat the destination area and preferred hotel-arrival time as part of the same charter request.
