Orlando Executive offers a genuine private-airport arrival
For a private flight to Orlando, Orlando Executive Airport (ORL / KORL) is a convenient arrival point. The airport is approximately three miles from Downtown and is focused on general and corporate aviation. Passengers are handled through Atlantic Aviation or Sheltair, the two full-service FBOs on the field. This keeps the arrival process discreet and allows the chauffeur to meet passengers close to the aircraft.
ORL provides 24-hour service through its FBOs and has a U.S. Customs and Border Protection facility on the airport. For an international private flight, customs is not something arranged only after landing. The current CBP procedure for Orlando Executive requires permission to land in advance and states that CBP should be contacted 24 hours before the anticipated arrival. The operating carrier and handler incorporate this into the trip preparation together with the required passenger information.
The longest runway is 6,004 ft. That works well for many business jets, particularly on arrival after much of the fuel has been consumed. The return to Europe deserves more attention: on a hot day with substantial fuel on board, an aircraft may require more runway. Before booking, we therefore check whether ORL also works comfortably for departure. If not, Orlando International can be the more sensible choice for that flight.
Kissimmee Gateway looks attractive for several resort areas, but in 2026 it cannot yet handle a routine international private arrival. Preliminary approval exists for a future customs facility, but it still needs to be built. We therefore do not base a direct European arrival on Kissimmee.
A Florida long-haul flight needs the right aircraft, not simply the largest one
Amsterdam to Orlando is around ten hours of flying time. For a non-stop trip we start with Heavy and Ultra Long Range Jets. Many Orlando journeys are family holidays, and that changes the practical requirements. Four or six passengers can bring more baggage than a larger corporate group: sizeable suitcases, pushchairs, golf bags and items for a longer stay quickly use available storage space.
Cabin comfort matters more than on a short European sector. An aircraft in which passengers can dine, sleep and move around comfortably makes a long daytime or overnight flight considerably easier. When children are travelling, we also consider a sensible cabin layout and enough accessible space for items needed during the flight. For a business trip, quiet working space and an arrival time that fits the day's schedule may be more important.
The eastbound return is often somewhat shorter because of prevailing winds, but the aircraft departs Florida with a large fuel load. This is particularly relevant at ORL, so we avoid saying that every Heavy Jet will automatically be suitable. Some types have very comfortable margins there; others may benefit from using MCO under certain conditions. We check the actual aircraft being offered, expected temperature, passenger load and baggage before confirming the airport.
For a stay of a week or longer, sourcing the outbound and return flights separately can be more economical. On a shorter visit, or when the return time may change, retaining the same aircraft can offer additional flexibility.
Your resort determines much of the journey on the ground
Orlando is not a destination where every passenger lands and drives to Downtown. Many travellers continue directly to Walt Disney World, Golden Oak, Lake Buena Vista, Bonnet Creek or Grande Lakes. This is why we like to know the actual hotel or resort during the quotation process. It allows the chauffeur and arrival timing to be planned realistically and avoids choosing an airport that looks convenient in theory but creates an unnecessary drive in practice.
Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World Resort is a strong option for families combining a luxury stay with easy access to the Disney area. Capa, its rooftop restaurant, is useful for an evening when there is no need to leave the resort again. For a quieter resort setting away from the immediate park zone, Grande Lakes combines The Ritz-Carlton and JW Marriott with extensive grounds, golf and leisure facilities.
Corporate travellers often have a different geography. Downtown Orlando is close to ORL, while the Orange County Convention Center and hotels around International Drive sit farther southwest. Lake Nona lies to the south near Orlando International. A pre-arranged chauffeur waiting at the FBO remains the simplest solution, and for a full schedule the same vehicle and driver can stay available throughout the day.
For families, practical details are worth arranging before departure. Child seats, multiple suitcases and the required vehicle size should be known before the aircraft lands. After almost ten hours in the air, a spacious car waiting at the FBO makes a noticeable difference.
School holidays and Florida weather deserve extra planning
Orlando has pronounced peak periods. Christmas and New Year, spring break and major school holidays increase demand for aircraft, hotels, villas and chauffeurs. For popular travel weeks we recommend planning earlier than for an ordinary business destination, because the combination of the right aircraft, preferred airport and convenient departure time can become less available.
The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June through November. Afternoon and evening thunderstorms are also a normal feature of the warmer months in Central Florida. Most flights continue to operate normally, but weather can influence departure timing, routing or ground handling. In the days before the trip we follow the forecast with the operator and build additional flexibility into the schedule where appropriate.
For the return journey, we agree the chauffeur collection time and which airport will be used. If ORL works comfortably for the aircraft and conditions, it again offers the quieter FBO experience. If MCO provides better runway margin for a heavy departure, we use MCO. The best solution is the combination that keeps the journey comfortable and avoids unnecessary detours.
