BOM and Navi Mumbai make airport choice part of the journey
Mumbai now has two serious airports to evaluate. BOM / VABB sits within the established city and has a dedicated Corporate Aviation Terminal. Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMI / VANM) commenced operations on 25 December 2025 and has a separate General Aviation Terminal with lounges, customs and immigration facilities and direct aircraft access.
BOM remains the natural first comparison for BKC, Worli, Lower Parel and many South Mumbai addresses. Its main 09/27 runway provides up to about 3,448 metres depending on direction, while runway 14/32 is 2,871 metres. Navi Mumbai has a 3,700-metre runway and can produce a better ground journey for Navi Mumbai itself, Panvel, Thane and some eastern destinations.
Hotel, office, meeting time and onward itinerary determine whether BOM or NMI is the more practical gateway. Mumbai road traffic can change door-to-door time more than a small difference in flight time.
At BOM, slot approval and GA time windows are hard planning constraints
The current Indian AIP requires international non-scheduled movements to BOM to submit a slot request at least 72 hours in advance. Every non-scheduled or General Aviation movement is also subject to positive approval from the Airport Operations Control Centre. Handling, customs, immigration, fuel and ATS are H24, but that does not mean a private aircraft can move at any hour.
General Aviation and military movements at BOM are not permitted daily between 08:00–10:00 and 17:00–19:30 local time, subject to specified VIP and scheduled-flight exceptions. For a corporate day trip this matters enormously: a meeting that runs late cannot always be solved by moving departure one hour later.
There is also the national flight clearance. India normally requires at least three working days’ notice for foreign non-scheduled flights carrying traffic into or out of the country. The AIP states that the clearance is valid for 48 hours; a delay beyond that can require fresh approval. We therefore ask early for the complete itinerary and accurate passenger and crew details, with aircraft registration information provided as soon as the operating aircraft is confirmed.
A 3,700-metre runway makes NMI compelling, but not automatically better
Navi Mumbai is a meaningful new option. The airport publishes a 3,700 × 45 metre runway and a separate GA apron. Its 753-square-metre General Aviation Terminal offers VIP lounges, CIQ, crew briefing, slot coordination and ramp services. This is purpose-built private-aviation infrastructure rather than a temporary reception arrangement.
Because NMI is still new, we confirm which services and approvals are available for the specific international charter date. Current AIP and handler information carries more weight than a broad website statement.
From Amsterdam, a Heavy Jet is normally the first practical category. An Ultra Long Range Jet adds cabin and payload margin, particularly with a full passenger load or an onward sector. A Super Midsize may come close to the required brochure range, but we prefer not to build this mission around the edge of a published range figure. Winds, alternates, temperature and payload should leave comfortable operating margin.
Mumbai should be planned around the meeting, district and return flight
On a short business trip, the specific location matters more than a generic city centre. BKC is a core finance and corporate district; Worli and Lower Parel sit differently relative to the airports from Colaba and Nariman Point. A hotel close to the meetings can save more time than a famous address across the city.
We place landing time, chauffeur transfer and the first appointment on one timeline. The same applies to the return: road traffic, security and immigration time, the booked GA window and DGCA/slot conditions determine when the car needs to leave the hotel. That is usually more useful than chasing the theoretically latest possible departure.
For a quotation we ask for outbound and return dates, passengers, baggage, full Mumbai addresses and any onward sector. JetServiceNL then compares suitable AOC-operated aircraft, BOM and NMI, parking, handling and the required permits. Price reflects flight time, positioning, airport charges, handling, crew, permits and the return structure. The objective is a proposal that remains workable on the travel day.
