Montpellier-Méditerranée: business aviation close to city and coast
Montpellier-Méditerranée Airport (MPL / LFMT) is the logical first airport for Montpellier itself. The French AIP places the airport approximately 3.8 NM, around 7 kilometres, east-southeast of the city. Main runway 12L/30R measures 2,600 by 45 metres. This offers more flexibility than a small regional field and accommodates Light Jets, Super Light Jets and, depending on the mission, larger categories.
Montpellier has its own business-aviation area and around ten dedicated stands. The airport lists reception, ramp assistance, baggage handling, flight preparation, ground concierge and catering through several handling partners. Assistance is mandatory for aircraft above 6 tonnes. For lighter aircraft, handling can still be practical or operationally required depending on the operator and flight profile.
Air traffic control is available H24. That does not mean customs, fire and handling services offer the same capability at every hour. From Light Jet to a larger cabin: select for the whole mission
For Amsterdam–Montpellier, a Light Jet is often an efficient starting point. A Citation CJ2/CJ3, Phenom 300 or comparable aircraft can work well depending on passenger count, baggage and current availability. Travellers with six to eight passengers, more luggage or a preference for additional cabin space may be better served by a Super Light Jet. Aircraft position matters significantly on this route. Montpellier itself is close after landing, but the destination area determines the real journey. For addresses farther towards the Camargue, Nîmes can sometimes be an alternative; destinations along the western coast may make Béziers geographically interesting. The closest airport on a map is not automatically the best one, however. For a same-day return, the aircraft may remain in Montpellier if parking, crew duty and scheduling allow. For a three- or four-night stay, drop-and-go can be more attractive. Summer demand, timing and the final charter price
Montpellier is useful year-round, while summer brings higher leisure demand to the Mediterranean coast. Aircraft availability, parking and chauffeurs can then tighten more quickly.
