Flying privately to Greenland
A private flight from the Netherlands to Nuuk takes approximately 4 hours 50 minutes. A Super Midsize Jet often provides the right blend of range, cabin comfort and luggage space; a Heavy Jet may appeal to a larger party or additional equipment. Winds, temperature and chosen airport remain decisive for the actual proposal.
Nuuk International Airport opened in late November 2024, making direct international arrival in the capital far more accessible. Ilulissat, Qaqortoq, Kangerlussuaq, Kulusuk or a remote lodge may be reached faster by another route. No roads connect Greenland’s towns; onward travel is by aircraft, helicopter or boat.
The airport follows the destination
GOH is the natural gateway for Nuuk and the vast Nuup Kangerlua fjord system. Travellers centring their journey on icebergs and the UNESCO-listed Ilulissat Icefjord continue to Disko Bay. Greenland Airports expects the new international airport at Ilulissat later in 2026; until official opening and confirmation for the specific aircraft, we plan only with current capability.
Qaqortoq Airport opened in April 2026, giving South Greenland a new gateway. It can shorten journeys to farms, fjords, hot springs and hiking around Qaqortoq, Narsaq and Nanortalik. East Greenland requires its own plan through Kulusuk, with a possible helicopter or boat continuation to Tasiilaq.
Cabin, clothing and expedition luggage
Warm clothing, sturdy boots, cameras and outdoor equipment occupy more space than ordinary weekend luggage. Skis, fishing gear and expedition cases must be mentioned from the first request. The smaller aircraft or helicopter on the final sector has its own luggage limit, so the entire chain needs to work.
A comfortable cabin matters, but reliability of the complete programme comes first. We recommend free time around important connections and avoid a boat or helicopter departure immediately after an intercontinental arrival. Greenland weather changes quickly; flexibility is part of a luxury journey here rather than a failure to plan.
Nuuk: culture beside the fjords
Nuuk is a small, modern Arctic capital with restaurants, cafés, architecture, art and the Greenland National Museum. It provides insight into contemporary Greenland and Inuit culture while nature remains close. Boats leave the harbour for hiking, fishing, wildlife and silent coves deep in the fjord system.
A stay can combine a comfortable city hotel with a remote camp or lodge in the fjord. Long summer light supports extended boat trips. During darker months, snow, stars and the possibility of Northern Lights create an entirely different atmosphere.
Ilulissat and Disko Bay
Ilulissat faces a constantly moving landscape of ice. Walking trails overlook the icefjord and private boats navigate among icebergs when conditions permit. A helicopter reveals the scale of the scenery, while a guide adjusts the route to weather, light and safety.
Disko Island, small settlements and lodges around the bay support a longer stay. Summer centres on boating, kayaking and walking; winter brings dog sledges and frozen landscapes. Whales are seasonal and the Northern Lights can never be guaranteed.
South Greenland and unhurried travel
South Greenland feels greener and more historic. Fjords lie among mountains, glaciers and small farming communities. Walking, private boating, fishing and visits to Norse ruins can begin from Qaqortoq or a lodge. The experience focuses less on a single icon and more on landscape and silence.
