France starts with the right airport, not one standard route
There is no single airport that works for every private flight to France. For Paris we use Paris-Le Bourget (LBG / LFPB) as the reference airport. Aéroports de Paris positions Le Bourget exclusively for business aviation and the airport sits around seven kilometres from Paris. Its longest runway is 2,991 metres, complemented by runways of 2,395 and 1,847 metres, allowing it to accommodate almost the full range of business aircraft.
Le Bourget is deliberately not our default for the whole country. Nice and Cannes suit the French Riviera, Chambéry and Grenoble can be valuable for selected Alpine journeys, Bordeaux gives direct access to Aquitaine, while Toulouse or Montpellier make more sense for the south.
Paris also requires some attention to evening timing. Le Bourget has noise restrictions that prohibit jet departures between 22:15 and 06:00. A dinner running late or an extended board meeting can therefore affect the return sector. We check these restrictions before confirming the aircraft and, where necessary, adjust the timing or compare another operational solution.
From a short executive trip to Riviera or ski travel, the aircraft follows the mission
From the Netherlands, a Light Jet is often the first category to consider for Paris, northern France and many central destinations. For longer sectors to the Riviera, more passengers or additional cabin comfort, a Super Light Jet can be more attractive. A turboprop remains commercially strong on selected shorter routes. The final choice depends not only on distance, but also on baggage, runway performance, requested timing and where the available aircraft is positioned.
Many French trips are baggage-sensitive. Two executives travelling to Paris with hand luggage create a very different requirement from four guests taking golf bags to the Riviera or skis and winter luggage to the Alps. We therefore check usable baggage volume rather than seat count alone. A compact jet may have enough seats for everyone while skis, large suitcases or a pushchair still require a different aircraft.
We also compare departure airports in the Netherlands. Amsterdam is not automatically best if Rotterdam, Eindhoven, Groningen or an airport just across the border is closer to the traveller or the aircraft. On a one- or two-hour sector, empty positioning can represent a meaningful part of the charter price. A smarter departure point can therefore save more than a slightly higher cruise speed.
Each quote is built around the complete rotation: aircraft position, waiting strategy, crew duty, airport costs and the ground journey after landing. This produces an aircraft recommendation that fits the actual trip rather than a generic category chosen from distance alone.
Paris, Riviera, Alps and wine regions each need a different travel plan
For Paris, Le Bourget is strong because FBO, chauffeur and city are close together. For a meeting in La Défense, a hotel near the Champs-Élysées or dinner in central Paris, we plan the chauffeur around the actual time of day; Paris traffic makes a simple map estimate unreliable.
On the French Riviera, summer pressure becomes the main factor. Nice and Cannes are exceptionally well placed for Monaco, Antibes, Cannes and Saint-Tropez, but parking and slot availability can influence the operation during peak weeks. An earlier arrival, different parking strategy or alternate airport may occasionally produce the more reliable journey. For Provence, Avignon, Marseille or Toulon can also enter the comparison.
In the Alps, priorities shift again. Chambéry, Grenoble, Annecy and Geneva can all be relevant depending on the chalet or resort. Runway condition, winter opening and aircraft performance matter more than a few kilometres on the map. The geographically closest airport is not always the fastest door-to-door option when snow, Saturday traffic or limited operating windows affect the road journey.
For Bordeaux, Burgundy, Champagne and other wine regions, the final sixty to ninety minutes on the ground can dominate the itinerary. A regional airport close to the estate, hotel or meeting can therefore add real value. If the destination area is already known, you may share it later or include it voluntarily for more tailored airport and transfer advice.
Season, operating hours and parking define the real flexibility
France has several peak seasons at once: Paris during major events, the Riviera in July and August, the Alps on winter weekends and wine regions around important commercial or culinary dates. An airport may be technically open while parking, handling capacity or slots shape the real choice. Early planning provides more freedom in aircraft and timing during these periods.
Regional French airports vary considerably in operating hours and PPR procedures. Some can extend beyond normal hours if requested early enough; others have firmer limits. Customs and immigration can also have separate notice requirements. JetServiceNL therefore never treats a published extension as a guaranteed late opening: the handler and operator confirm the specific movement.
