Private jet to Farnborough: London without the commercial terminal
Farnborough Airport (FAB / EGLF) is a dedicated business-aviation airport in Hampshire, southwest of London. The airport operates both the airfield and its FBO and is designed around private and corporate flights. Passengers have dedicated lounges, concierge support, screening and on-site customs and immigration. For the fastest possible journey, passengers can also be escorted directly between the aircraft and their car.
The runway has a total concrete length of 2,608 metres. Published take-off and landing distances vary by direction; runway 24, for example, has a TORA of 2,063 metres, while the LDA is 1,800 metres in both landing directions. This supports a very broad range of business aircraft, including large long-range jets, although every operator completes the performance calculation for the actual aircraft, weather and payload.
The airport is not open 24 hours. Current opening times are Monday to Friday 07:00–22:00 and Saturday, Sunday and UK Bank Holidays 08:00–20:00 local time. Farnborough is closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. This is particularly relevant for a late dinner in London or a Sunday return: the requested schedule must fit the airport's operating window.
Choosing the right aircraft for Amsterdam – Farnborough
Amsterdam to Farnborough is a short sector of around one hour. For two to four passengers, a Light Jet is normally more than sufficient and often the most efficient choice. For five to eight travellers, substantial baggage or a preference for a larger cabin, a Super Light Jet may be more suitable. Farnborough itself can handle much larger aircraft, but using a Heavy Jet on such a short route only makes sense when group size, cabin requirements or a connected long-range mission justify it.

Farnborough is particularly strong when the final destination is in west or southwest London. The airport states that central London can be reached by road in under 60 minutes, depending on traffic and the specific location. Mayfair or the City can take longer during peak traffic, but for Surrey, Berkshire, Windsor and many corporate locations along the M3 and M4 corridors, Farnborough is geographically very well placed.
When time is genuinely critical, Farnborough allows a direct transfer from private jet to helicopter. The airport quotes a journey of around twelve minutes to London. That can transform the itinerary by reducing exposure to road congestion for a central-London meeting. It is a separate service that requires advance booking, and weather conditions naturally remain part of the planning.
For an overnight stay close to the airport, Aviator Hampshire is around a five-minute drive away. Travellers preferring a country-house environment can continue to Four Seasons Hotel Hampshire, which gives an approximate transfer time of twenty minutes from Farnborough Airport. For dinner in the wider area, Latymer at Pennyhill Park is currently listed with one Michelin Star.
Farnborough is therefore not simply a London airport. For meetings in Farnborough itself, offices in Surrey, golf around Sunningdale or Wentworth, Windsor or a stay in Hampshire, it can be the most direct arrival point. Farnborough's principal practical restriction is straightforward: the airport operates within fixed daily windows. A dinner that runs late or a Sunday departure after 20:00 cannot simply remain on the same plan. Where a London schedule has very little margin, another airport may be the safer choice.
During major events, international trade weeks and other busy periods in London, demand for aircraft, chauffeurs and parking can increase. Farnborough itself is highly organised, but booking earlier gives more choice in aircraft position and departure timing.
