Flying privately to Copenhagen
Copenhagen is a short, efficient private-aviation sector from the Netherlands. Indicative block time from Amsterdam is around one hour and twenty minutes, so ground time can be almost as important as the flight itself. For a meeting, dinner or weekend, a private jet mainly adds value through departure from a convenient regional airport, minimal waiting and a return schedule that is not tied to airline frequencies.
Kastrup or Roskilde?
Copenhagen Airport Kastrup (CPH / EKCH) is the logical first choice for most travellers. It is close to the centre and has complete international infrastructure. General and business aviation are handled within the same major-airport environment, and CPH operates with slot coordination. For a meeting in central Copenhagen, Ørestad or a hotel around Kongens Nytorv, the short transfer is a major advantage.
Roskilde Airport (RKE / EKRK) is officially a relief airport for Copenhagen Airport and is used by private aircraft, helicopters, business aviation and VIP traffic. It lies further from the centre but is far more focused on general aviation. That can suit an aircraft seeking a quieter operating environment, a longer parking plan or a final destination west of Copenhagen. The best airport is therefore not always simply the one closest to Nyhavn.
Which aircraft suits Amsterdam – Copenhagen?
For this short route, a turboprop or light jet is normally the most efficient first choice. A King Air-type turboprop can be financially attractive when a few extra minutes of flight time are acceptable and regional airports are involved. A light jet such as the Citation CJ family or Phenom 300 class is faster and often feels more natural for a corporate day return. With two to six passengers, a larger jet is usually unnecessary unless extra cabin space, baggage or positioning makes it worthwhile.
On a sector of only a little over an hour, minimum charges and positioning have a relatively large effect. An aircraft already in the Netherlands or Belgium can therefore be much stronger value than one with a lower hourly rate but a long empty positioning leg. An excellent day-return destination
Copenhagen works very well for an early departure, several appointments and a return the same evening. The short sector keeps crew duty manageable. Travellers returning after dinner should still have a confirmed airport and handling plan. From the airport to the city
Kastrup is on the southern side of Copenhagen and the road journey to the centre, Ørestad or Frederiksberg is generally short. Roskilde is west of the city and requires more ground time to the historic centre, but can be more convenient for meetings in western Zealand. For journeys continuing to Malmö, Kastrup is also attractive because of the Øresund connection.
Where to stay in Copenhagen
Hotel d’Angleterre on Kongens Nytorv is a classic five-star reference in the heart of the city. Villa Copenhagen offers a more contemporary atmosphere near Central Station, while Nimb Hotel suits a leisure weekend around Tivoli. Corporate travellers often choose Indre By or Ørestad depending on where their meetings are located. Copenhagen is compact enough that selecting the right base can remove a surprising amount of unnecessary driving.
Copenhagen remains exceptional for gastronomy. The 2026 MICHELIN Guide Nordic Countries lists both Geranium and Alchemist with three stars. These are destination restaurants where a reservation can become part of the travel plan itself. For a less formal evening, Nyhavn, Christianshavn, Vesterbro and Nørrebro offer a broad range of alternatives.
Season and city rhythm
May through September is attractive for long daylight hours and outdoor dining, but hotels and events can also be busier. December is popular for Christmas markets and dinners, while January and February are quieter and much darker. Copenhagen is strong in congresses, design, life sciences and corporate events; during major exhibitions, booking earlier mainly increases the choice of well-positioned light jets.
Copenhagen and the Øresund region
A flight to Copenhagen does not necessarily concern the Danish capital alone. Corporate programmes in life sciences, shipping and technology can spread across Copenhagen, Ørestad and southern Sweden. Malmö is directly connected to Kastrup through the Øresund link. For such a cross-border business itinerary, Kastrup may be more practical than Roskilde even when Roskilde offers a quieter general-aviation environment. the destination area matters more than the simple label “private jet airport”.
