Lamezia Terme: the practical airport for Catanzaro
Lamezia Terme International Airport (SUF / LICA) is the primary gateway for Catanzaro and central Calabria. Runway 10/28 measures 3,017 by 45 metres and the airport is certified for day and night operations under IFR and VFR. That gives ample scope for Light Jets, Super Light Jets and larger categories; the specific aircraft is still checked for weight, weather and the operating conditions expected.
SACAL describes the airport as open 24 hours a day and places Catanzaro about 35 kilometres away. The same official information puts Crotone at roughly 110 kilometres and Reggio Calabria at around 135 kilometres. For central Catanzaro, SUF is therefore the clear first choice; only with a destination area much farther east or south do we bring the regional alternatives back into the comparison.

The 3,017-metre runway provides generous margin, yet on a full Light Jet baggage volume may become the practical constraint before runway performance does. The ground transfer defines the real Calabria journey
Catanzaro is not one point on the coast. A meeting in the upper city creates a different transfer from Catanzaro Lido, while leisure travellers often continue to Soverato or Tropea. SACAL places Soverato about 65 kilometres from the airport and Tropea roughly 60 kilometres away. In summer, traffic around coastal towns can materially extend the real journey time.

Lamezia being open around the clock gives useful freedom for early and late movements, but handling and PPR remain necessary. The GA handler collects aircraft type, MTOW, passengers, crew, ETA/ETD and requested services in advance. Fuel, chauffeur, crew transport and additional ramp services are then organised around the movement.
In July and August, the main time pressure often comes after landing: holiday traffic and busy coastal roads make a sensible buffer more valuable than saving a few minutes in cruise.
