Arriving directly at Blackpool Airport
Blackpool Airport (BLK / EGNH) is only a few kilometres south of the resort and is normally the most logical airport for the Fylde Coast. Runway 10/28 is 1,868 metres long. It comfortably serves turboprops, Light Jets and selected business aircraft, although the actual aircraft is always checked against its planned loading and the conditions on the day. On Amsterdam – Blackpool, runway length is generally not the deciding factor for the lighter categories normally used on this route.
The arrival is compact. Hangar Three provides specialist handling for private and business aircraft, including a VIP lounge. On an international flight from the Netherlands, the required UK border information is coordinated in advance by the operator and handling team. After passport formalities, passengers can continue directly to the waiting car.
Timing is an important part of the plan. Blackpool Airport publishes normal operating hours of 07:00 to 21:00 local time and requires prior permission to use the airport. Movements outside those hours can only be arranged in advance, subject to availability, and carry additional charges. For a late dinner, performance or event, we check before booking whether a same-evening return is sensible. An overnight stay can sometimes be the better solution.
From the aircraft to Blackpool, Lytham or Lancashire
Blackpool Airport’s main advantage is the short road journey after landing. Blackpool itself is immediately north of the airport, while Lytham St Annes is also close. Travellers attending an event at the Winter Gardens or a programme on the promenade avoid the long drive back from Manchester or Liverpool. Blackpool can also work well for appointments in Preston and elsewhere in Lancashire.
For a corporate visit, we normally arrange a chauffeur around the actual landing time. Even over a short distance this makes the journey smoother: luggage goes straight into the car and the same driver can be available again after the meeting. Traffic along the coast can increase significantly during major events, school holidays and the Illuminations. On those days we allow extra time for the return drive to the aircraft.
Lytham St Annes has a noticeably different atmosphere from central Blackpool. It is quieter, more residential and closely associated with golf and the coast. Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club is very close to the airport and is one of England's best-known links courses. On a golf charter we check the golf bags as well as passenger numbers before selecting the aircraft; on a compact Light Jet, usable luggage space can matter more than the number of seats in the cabin.
Choosing the aircraft for Amsterdam – Blackpool
The flight from the Netherlands is short. For two to four passengers, a Light Jet often gives the best balance of speed and cabin comfort. A turboprop can be attractive when cost is a higher priority and a few additional minutes in the air are acceptable. With five or six passengers, substantial luggage or a preference for more cabin space, we also consider larger Light Jets and Super Light Jets. The specific aircraft and the details of the trip are what matter.
On a route of around one hour, aircraft location can influence the charter price more than fuel burn alone. A suitable aircraft already near the Netherlands may offer better value than one that first needs a long empty flight. For a day return, keeping the same aircraft and crew available is often convenient. For a stay of several days, we compare whether waiting still makes financial sense or whether a separate solution for the return would be more efficient.
The return deserves particular attention in Blackpool because of the published airport hours. An early outbound flight followed by an afternoon return is straightforward to arrange. With an evening programme, we work back from the expected finishing time, the drive to the airport and the time required to depart comfortably. This avoids choosing a departure time that does not fit the airport's operational day.
Staying on the Fylde Coast and choosing the season
For travellers who want to stay in Blackpool itself, Boulevard Hotel on the seafront is one of the more contemporary upscale choices and sits beside Pleasure Beach. A quieter programme may fit Lytham St Annes better. Royal Lytham also has its own Dormy House accommodation for visiting golfers. The right base depends less on the destination name and more on where the meetings, events or leisure programme actually take place.
Blackpool has distinct seasonal peaks. Summer weekends, major shows, football, the Blackpool Air Show and the Illuminations attract large numbers of visitors. During those periods we prefer to arrange the chauffeur and accommodation alongside the flight. Outside summer the coast is quieter, although wind, rain and low cloud are more common considerations. We therefore follow the forecast closely and keep a practical alternate plan available.
The real value of a private jet to Blackpool is the short door-to-door chain rather than luxury for its own sake.
