Heavy jets are designed for longer missions where cabin space and payload are important. They are often used for flights of seven to twelve hours, although practical range varies by aircraft and passenger load. Winds, baggage, alternates and the selected airports determine whether a route can genuinely be flown non-stop.
For corporate delegations, families and larger parties, this category provides enough space to use the cabin in different ways. Some passengers can work or dine while others rest, making a noticeable difference over a long journey.
Cabin and service
Greater privacy and a complete onboard environment
Most heavy jets offer a stand-up cabin, a spacious lavatory and facilities for more extensive catering. Depending on the configuration, there may be separate seating areas, a divan or sleeping positions. Cabin crew is common on many aircraft, but the crew complement and service are confirmed with each offer.
Baggage capacity is also generally far greater than on a midsize jet. Volume, weight limits and accessibility still vary by registration, so large suitcases, skis, golf equipment or unusual items are included in the selection from the outset.
Heavy or long range
Not every long journey requires an ultra-long-range jet
A well-matched heavy jet can be both comfortable and efficient on many longer routes. A long-range aircraft becomes the logical step when additional non-stop capability, more sleeping positions or greater payload margin is required.
