The United States has no single private-jet airport
There is no meaningful nationwide “best airport” for the United States. Teterboro (TEB / KTEB) is a classic business-aviation reference for New York, but the Port Authority limits operating weight to below 100,000 lb. For large Ultra Long Range aircraft, other New York airports may therefore be more appropriate. Miami, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston and dozens of other cities each have completely different private-aviation choices. For JetServiceNL, airport choice is therefore not an automatic consequence of the city name. We look at the actual final address, requested arrival time, handling and parking availability and the operational room for the selected aircraft. An airport that looks farther away on a map can still create the calmer or more reliable door-to-door journey.

For South Florida, Opa-locka, Fort Lauderdale Executive or the larger international airports may be relevant; for Los Angeles, Van Nuys or LAX may fit depending on aircraft and destination. The United States is so large that the right airport can save more time than the difference between two jet types. Chauffeur planning is prepared alongside the flight. For a business trip, the relevant time is not merely touchdown; it is when you need to be in the lobby, boardroom, restaurant or hotel.
Aircraft choice changes from East Coast to West Coast
Amsterdam–New York is a different mission from Amsterdam–Los Angeles. For the East Coast, a modern Heavy Jet is often efficient and Ultra Long Range comfortable; for the West Coast, ULR becomes the logical non-stop category much more quickly. Florida sits between the two. From the Netherlands, Heavy or Ultra Long Range Jet is the first logical category. That does not mean every aircraft in the category can perform the same mission: wind, payload, alternates, route availability, crew duty and actual runway performance determine which type is genuinely suitable.
Mountain airports such as Aspen require type-specific performance analysis for elevation and terrain, while major coastal airports can be much simpler from a runway perspective. One nationwide aircraft rule would therefore be misleading. On a long sector we compare non-stop operation with a technical stop when that improves robustness or price. A larger jet may provide more range but can also create higher positioning and airport costs. Conversely, a well-matched Heavy Jet can be more efficient than an Ultra Long Range aircraft when payload and forecast conditions allow it.
Long stays, golf, skis, shopping and multi-city itineraries can generate substantial baggage. On domestic onward sectors we check whether a smaller aircraft can genuinely carry the same baggage. Baggage, sports or business equipment and preferences for sleeping positions, cabin height and privacy are included from the first proposal. This avoids choosing an aircraft that has sufficient theoretical range but does not fit the practical way you want to travel.
New York, Florida, California or the mountains
Manhattan and Westchester call for different airport choices; South Beach and Palm Beach are two different Florida markets; Beverly Hills and Malibu sit differently relative to Los Angeles airports; Aspen brings mountain performance back into the equation. Aman New York, The Setai Miami Beach, The Beverly Hills Hotel and The Little Nell in Aspen illustrate how different destinations within one country can be. Airport selection is therefore linked to the district where the journey genuinely begins or ends, not simply to a generic ‘city centre’ label.
Fine dining in Manhattan, Miami, Los Angeles or Napa creates a different ground plan each time. On short corporate trips we prefer to cluster meetings and dinner on the same side of the city. A U.S. itinerary can combine New York with Florida, Las Vegas, California or skiing. Private aviation becomes particularly valuable between cities where commercial schedules and transfers connect poorly. Travellers combining business and leisure often benefit more from a schedule with margin between meetings, dinner and departure than from booking the theoretically latest possible movement. That leaves room for traffic, security and an unhurried return to the FBO.
CBP Permission to Land and airport-specific planning
The United States has multiple climate zones and peak seasons at the same time: winter sun in Florida, skiing in the Rockies, summer on both coasts and major event periods in cities such as New York, Miami and Las Vegas. Season affects not only weather but hotel demand, airport congestion and the availability of long-range aircraft. Around strong peak periods we recommend requesting earlier mainly to preserve choice; we do not invent a fixed lead time where the airport or authority has not published one.
For an international General Aviation arrival there is one important nationwide principle: after transmitting APIS, the operator must obtain Permission to Land directly from the CBP port of arrival before departing the foreign point. CBP does not publish one universal 24/48/72-hour rule for every airport; local procedures vary by port and are therefore checked for each flight. Before departure we verify route, permits, slot and parking, handling, customs and immigration, fuel and crew planning as one operating plan. At busy or weather-sensitive destinations we prefer a realistic margin over an itinerary that works only under ideal conditions.
