Private jet to Tunis

Tunis combines a business capital with Carthage, Sidi Bou Said and the resorts of Gammarth in one compact region. Tunis-Carthage Airport sits close to the city and has long runways, so the airport itself is rarely the limiting factor. The real choices are aircraft category, handling, permits and especially the final address: downtown Tunis needs a different ground plan from a hotel on the coast.

Tunis-Carthage: one airport for the city, Carthage and Gammarth

For a private flight to Tunis we use Tunis-Carthage International Airport (TUN / DTTA). The airport sits directly northeast of the capital and has two runways, the longest measuring approximately 3,200 metres. That provides ample capability for business jets from Super Light through to Heavy categories. For most trips, an alternative airport is therefore unnecessary; the more important question is where you need to go after landing.

For a meeting in central Tunis, the ground transfer can be relatively short. Carthage, La Marsa, Sidi Bou Said and Gammarth lie east and northeast of the airport. This makes TUN particularly practical for a journey combining business in the city with a stay on the coast. We schedule the chauffeur around the actual hotel or meeting address and build in realistic margin for traffic around the capital.

Private flights to Tunisia require pre-arranged handling and operational formalities. We therefore ask the operating carrier and local handler to confirm permissions, passenger details, slots when applicable and airport services before departure. For a last-minute request, we first establish what can realistically be arranged so that an available aircraft is not offered without a workable local operation.

Super Light or Midsize Jet: a three-hour flight makes comfort efficient

At less than one thousand nautical miles from Amsterdam, Tunis is a strong route for a Super Light Jet. The category is fast, modern and normally spacious enough for four to seven passengers. For a larger party, additional luggage or travellers wanting more standing room and cabin volume, we compare a Midsize Jet. A Heavy Jet can of course operate the route, but on this distance it only adds real value when group size, cabin preference or a follow-on sector justifies it.

Charter price is strongly influenced by positioning. Tunisia is close to Southern Europe, so an aircraft from France, Italy, Malta or Spain can occasionally be attractive for one sector. For the outbound flight from the Netherlands, a jet from Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Brussels or Germany may fit better. With a stay of several days, the same aircraft therefore does not necessarily need to wait; a drop-and-go structure can reduce the total mission cost.

High temperatures are normal in July and August. Tunis-Carthage’s long runway provides substantial performance margin, but the operator always calculates using actual weight, temperature and wind. Leisure journeys to Gammarth also tend to involve more baggage than a business mission, particularly for families. Aircraft selection therefore considers baggage volume and cabin layout as well as the number of seats.

From Tunis to Sidi Bou Said: city and coast are surprisingly close

For a business overnight, a hotel in or near central Tunis may be most efficient. For a combination of work and leisure, Gammarth is more attractive. Four Seasons Hotel Tunis sits on the coast in Gammarth and provides a genuine resort setting without placing the capital far away. The Residence Tunis is another established high-end option with beach, golf and a large thalasso spa. Both work well for a two- or three-night stay.

Carthage and Sidi Bou Said make it easy to give a free afternoon real content without planning a separate domestic journey. The archaeological sites of Carthage are close to the coast, while Sidi Bou Said offers its famous white-and-blue architecture above the Gulf of Tunis. La Marsa lies between them with a lively restaurant and café scene. This allows a programme with a meeting in Tunis and dinner by the sea on the same day.

For dining in a resort setting, El Dar at The Residence provides a clear Tunisian focus. Four Seasons offers a mix of Mediterranean and international concepts. Travellers who prefer the city can ask the concierge to reserve a local restaurant while the chauffeur remains available. Good ground planning here is mainly about avoiding unnecessary back-and-forth between city, coast and hotel.

Business visit or long weekend: the same flight, a different mission

Tunis works well as a short business trip. A morning flight from the Netherlands, meetings in the afternoon, one overnight and departure the following day is efficient. A same-day return can be possible depending on timings and crew duty, but it creates a long day. For leisure, two or three nights provide far more value because Carthage, Sidi Bou Said and Gammarth can then be added without rushing.

We discuss in advance whether the aircraft should remain on the ground or depart after arrival. Parking, crew accommodation, aircraft position and the operator’s next mission determine the best structure. For a combination with another destination in North Africa or Southern Europe, a multi-leg charter can be attractive; not every sector needs to be flown by the same aircraft if that is not commercially sensible.
