Orlando Executive is the private-aviation choice, but MCO still matters
For a private flight to Orlando, we first consider Orlando Executive Airport (ORL / KORL). The airport is only about three miles from Downtown Orlando and is positioned by the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority specifically for general and corporate aviation. Two full-service FBOs, 24-hour service, instrument approaches and a Customs and Border Protection facility make ORL relevant for international private travel as well.
The key operational nuance is runway length. ORL’s main runway is 6,004 ft. That can work well for many business jets, particularly on arrival after a long sector when the aircraft is lighter. A heavy departure carrying fuel for a non-stop return to Europe can be more demanding on the same runway during a hot Florida afternoon. We therefore assess performance for the exact type and keep Orlando International (MCO / KMCO), with substantially longer runways and full international infrastructure, as a strong alternative.
Kissimmee Gateway is attractively positioned near many resorts and attractions, but its new international customs capability is not yet operational in 2026. The airport received preliminary approval in June 2026 for a future CBP User Fee Facility, after which the facility still has to be constructed. We therefore do not present Kissimmee as if a direct international charter can routinely clear there today. It can still be useful for domestic or already-cleared movements later in an itinerary.
A flight approaching ten hours needs genuine long-range planning
Amsterdam–Orlando is approximately 3,940 nautical miles and the westbound sector is close to ten hours of block time. For a non-stop charter, we therefore start with Heavy or Ultra Long Range Jets. On a family trip, range is not the only consideration: suitcases, children’s equipment, golf bags and longer Florida stays often create more volume than the passenger count suggests. A generous baggage compartment can matter as much as additional seats.
For corporate travel, the same category offers a cabin in which passengers can work and sleep. The eastbound return to Europe is often faster with the prevailing winds, but departure from Orlando can be more performance-sensitive when ORL is used. On hot days we look carefully at runway length, aircraft weight and required fuel. Some Heavy Jet types fit ORL very well; for others MCO is the cleaner operational choice even though the overall airport environment is larger.
For a week around the theme parks, it rarely makes sense to keep an intercontinental aircraft and crew in place for the full stay without comparing alternatives. On a short corporate visit or weekend, retaining the same aircraft can be convenient. If the itinerary continues to Miami, Naples, Tampa or the Bahamas, the transatlantic sector can also be paired with a different aircraft for the short regional leg.
Lake Buena Vista, Grande Lakes and Downtown create very different transfers
Many leisure itineraries are not centred in Downtown Orlando at all but around Walt Disney World, Lake Buena Vista and Golden Oak. Four Seasons Resort Orlando at Walt Disney World Resort is one of the area’s strongest luxury options and works particularly well for families. Capa, the resort’s rooftop restaurant, combines high-end dining with views towards the evening fireworks. Waldorf Astoria Orlando and the Bonnet Creek resorts offer alternatives in the same broad area.
For a quieter resort environment away from the immediate Disney zone, Grande Lakes with The Ritz-Carlton Orlando and JW Marriott is attractive. Downtown Orlando is a different journey, with offices, sports, cultural venues and residential neighbourhoods; for that programme, ORL’s proximity is exceptional. Airport selection should therefore follow the resort or business address rather than simply the word “Orlando” on the itinerary.
Florida also has a clear seasonal rhythm. Christmas, New Year, spring break and school holidays produce major visitor flows and can tighten both hotel and aircraft availability. Hurricane season runs from June through November, and the warmer months also bring frequent afternoon and evening thunderstorms. Private aviation remains flexible, but we build more room into the plan for weather, ATC and possible routing changes during this period.
Orlando is a deliberate balance between convenience and runway margin
ORL is attractive because it is designed around corporate aviation, has customs on the field and sits very close to Downtown. We still would not automatically place every direct Europe return on its 6,004-ft runway. The correct choice only becomes clear once aircraft type, passengers, baggage, temperature and return fuel are known. MCO may feel less private, but can be the better operational answer for a heavy departure.
For international arrivals, the operator and handler confirm the CBP process at the selected airport. With Kissimmee, we reflect the current status accurately: preliminary approval for a future customs facility is different from an already operating border inspection point. That distinction matters because an incorrect assumption can create an extra stop or a late itinerary change.
Where this page shows a price indication, it follows the same Heavy or Ultra Long Range category recommended for the route. The actual price also depends on positioning, length of stay, season and the final choice between ORL and MCO. This keeps the price guidance consistent with an aircraft that can handle both the ocean sector and the selected runway in a practical, safe manner.
