Calvi-Sainte-Catherine Airport: the practical airport choice for Corsica
Corsica has four relevant commercial airports: Ajaccio (AJA), Figari (FSC), Bastia (BIA) and Calvi (CLY). Figari normally suits Porto-Vecchio and Bonifacio; Ajaccio serves the west/south-west, Bastia the north-east and Calvi the Balagne. Runway, wind, terrain, handling and parking differ by field, so we choose only after receiving the exact villa or marina address.
An “alternate” in Corsica is often another Corsican airport, but that can still mean hours by road. Nice or Marseille are external weather alternates; the primary airport choice is therefore especially important for the traveller.
After landing we arrange a chauffeur to the actual final address. For Ajaccio, Porto-Vecchio, Bonifacio, Calvi, Bastia, we compare road time at the requested time of day because the geographically closest airport does not always create the fastest door-to-door journey.
Choosing the right aircraft for Corsica
There is deliberately no single airport that is always best for Corsica. A country page is a starting point: final address, season, requested time and aircraft type determine which airport is genuinely practical. For a live request we compare several airports and do not automatically default to a major airline hub when a business-aviation field offers a shorter or simpler journey.
From the Netherlands, Light Jet or Super Light Jet is the first logical category. We then assess the specific aircraft for passenger load, baggage, winds, runway performance and whether it waits or repositions. This keeps the recommendation mission-led rather than category-led.
Island travel often combines holiday luggage with diving, golf or sailing equipment. We check hold volume, door dimensions and relevant weight limits before proposing an aircraft. If a boat, seaplane or smaller transfer aircraft follows, we coordinate the baggage chain with that final sector as well.
We also compare the European departure airport for Corsica. Amsterdam is often practical, while Rotterdam, Eindhoven, Brussels or another regional field may be closer to the traveller and better aligned with aircraft position. A slightly different route can therefore save both ground time and empty positioning.
From touchdown to meetings, hotel or leisure
For accommodation and meetings, Ajaccio, Porto-Vecchio, Bonifacio, Calvi are the logical areas. Travellers often combine villa, yacht, beach and regional travel across the island with beaches, mountain roads, yachting. Hotel and chauffeur are kept outside the flight price, while their location still informs the airport choice. For an early meeting or late arrival, staying closer to the airport or appointment can also be more comfortable than automatically choosing the best-known city centre.
This page deliberately does not recommend one airport for an entire country. The right field depends on city, region, resort, aircraft type and timing, so we compare several airports for every live request. For Corsica, we therefore consider the complete day: departure from home, FBO, flight, arrival, chauffeur and the time the traveller genuinely needs to be at the final destination. That is usually more valuable than pursuing the shortest airborne time alone. A same-day return also requires a different aircraft and crew plan from a stay of several nights. Waiting can be efficient for a short stop; for a longer stay we compare drop-and-go with a fresh positioning movement. This keeps aviation aligned with the traveller’s agenda rather than the other way around. In Corsica, a distance that looks short on the map can take much longer because of mountain roads. For a villa near Porto-Vecchio, a yacht in Bonifacio or a hotel near Calvi, we therefore use realistic road and seasonal traffic rather than a straight-line airport distance.
Season, schedule and charter pricing
July and August are pronounced peak months for private aviation, villas, yachts and parking. May-June and September often provide quieter roads and easier planning. For every flight, the operator and handler confirm current opening, handling, parking and any slot or PPR requirements; we do not turn an unpublished lead time into a fixed rule. During a known peak, we recommend requesting early mainly to preserve aircraft and parking choice, not because we invent a universal booking deadline.
When planning Corsica, we therefore look beyond the requested departure time. We check whether the same crew can operate the rotation, how much margin is sensible for handling and the ground transfer, and whether an early or late movement is operationally practical. During events, school holidays and peak weekends, booking early mainly preserves aircraft and parking choice; we do not invent a fixed lead time where the airport has not published one.
The charter price to Corsica ultimately reflects aircraft availability, positioning, flight time, airport and handling charges, crew planning and the way the return is structured. Keeping the aircraft on the ground can be ideal for a short stay; for several days, drop-and-go or a fresh positioning flight may be more economical. A website price indication appears only when enough comparable historical data is available. For the actual trip you always receive current AOC options with total price and conditions.
